Metropolitan Council Meeting

The Metropolitan Council met in regular session on this date at 7:00 p.m. in the Metropolitan Courthouse.

The invocation was offered by Imam Ilyas Muhammad.

The Metropolitan Council gave the pledge of allegiance to the American Flag.

RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-765

A resolution expressing the deepest sympathy to the families of the victims of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, and expressing gratitude to courageous efforts of the public safety employees and rescue workers in their rescue attempts, and expressing support to the President and United States officials and leaders in their efforts to bring those persons responsible for these cowardly acts to justice. The resolution was approved by the Rules-Confirmations-Public Elections Committee. Agricultural Extension Board

Reappointment of Mr. Robert Basse to the Agricultural Extension Board for a term expiring August 1, 2004. The Rules-Confirmations-Public Elections Committee recommended the appointment, and Ms. Williams moved for confirmation, which motion was seconded and adopted by a unanimous vote of the Council.

Charter Revision Commission

Appointment of Mr. Harlan Dodson to the Charter Revision Commission for a term expiring September 4, 2005. In the absence of the appointee, the confirmation was deferred without objection.

Appointment of Father Joseph Sanches to the Charter Revision Commission for a term expiring September 4, 2005. The Rules-Confirmations-Public Elections Committee recommended the appointment, and Ms. Williams moved for confirmation, which motion was seconded and adopted by a unanimous vote of the Council.

Appointment of Ms. Nancy Vincent to the Charter Revision Commission for a term expiring September 4, 2005. Convention Center Commission

Historical Commission

Reappointment of Ms. Menie Bell to the Historical Commission for a term expiring August 10, 2005. The Rules-Confirmations-Public Elections Committee recommended the appointment, and Ms. Williams moved for confirmation, which motion was seconded and adopted by a unanimous vote of the Council.

RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-675

A resolution requesting the Metropolitan Public Works Department to restore chipper service to a routed schedule. Mr. Dillard moved to withdraw the resolution, which motion was seconded and adopted by a voice vote of the Council.

SUBSTITUTE RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-718

A substitute resolution authorizing Marianne W. Bingham to install, construct and maintain a sign measuring 12'0" in length, 2'2" in width, and 28'2" in total height 14' above the public sidewalk at 412 Broadway (Proposal No.2001M-080U-09), all of which is more particularly described herein. Mr. Wallace offered a second substitute resolution and moved that it be accepted for filing and no objection was made.

SECOND SUBSTITUTE RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-718

A substitute resolution authorizing Marianne W. Bingham, owner, and Ruble Sanderson, lessee, of The Stage at Broadway to install, construct and maintain a sign measuring 10'1" in length, 2'2" in width, and 14' in total height 14' above the public sidewalk at 412 Broadway (Proposal No.2001M-080U-09), all of which is more particularly described herein. A resolution requesting the Metropolitan Human Relations Commission to work especially with Native Americans by providing assistance, including education, government and social assistance. Ms. Tucker requested a suspension of the rules to allow members of the public to speak on the matter, and no objection was made. RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-743

A resolution requesting the Mayor, the Director of the Public Works Department, and the Director of the Health Department to take action to prevent unsafe health hazards under the Demonbreun Street Bridge. The Health, Hospitals and Social Services Committee recommended deferment of the resolution. Mr. Wallace moved to defer action on the resolution, which motion was seconded and adopted by a voice vote of the Council.

RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-744

A resolution requesting the Metropolitan Hospital Authority to remove the directional sign for Metropolitan Nashville General Hospital located on Charlotte Avenue. The Health, Hospitals and Social Services Committee recommended deferment of the resolution. Mr. Wallace moved to defer action on the resolution, which motion was seconded and adopted by a voice vote of the Council.

RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-745

A resolution requesting the State Department of Transportation to improve traffic flow and conditions where Interstate 65 and Interstate 40 merge with the Interloop to permit easier exit to Fourth Avenue.
