A resolution expressing the deepest sympathy to the families of the victims of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, and expressing gratitude to courageous efforts of the public safety employees and rescue workers in their rescue attempts, and expressing support to the President and United States officials and leaders in their efforts to bring those persons responsible for these cowardly acts to justice.

WHEREAS, on September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks were carried out in New York City and in Washington D.C. together with a failed attempted attack resulting in an airplane crash in Pennsylvania which has taken the lives of thousands of people and resulted in numerous injuries to innocent victims; and

WHEREAS, after the attacks at the World Trade Center in New York City hundreds of fire fighters and police officers together with other rescue workers responded to the site with many of these courageous workers suffering death or injury with the collapse of the buildings at the World Trade Center; and

WHEREAS, as a result of this national tragedy the people of the United States, of all races, religion, or ethnic origin, have united together in prayer and resolve to support all of the victims and families of the victims and our national leaders in their call to bring to justice these perpetrators of the cowardly acts; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that all Americans continue their support of our government, its agencies, our freedom, and support for all persons regardless of their religion, ancestry, ethnic origin; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan County Council go on record as expressing its continued support of America, its principles and all of our people.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY, TENNESSEE:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan County Council, hereby, expresses the deepest sympathy to the families of the victims of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, and expresses gratitude for courageous efforts of the public safety employees and rescue workers in their rescue attempts, and expresses support to the President and United States officials and leaders in their efforts to bring those persons responsible for these dastardly acts to justice.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan County Council further goes on record as requesting all of America to stand united against terrorist acts and aggression wherever such acts occur and that all of America continue to stand united in promoting peace, safety and dignity for all persons of good will in the United States regardless of their race, creed, religion, or ethnic origin.

SECTION 3. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to the President of the United States, and to the Mayors of New York City, New York and Washington, D.C., and the Governors of New York and Pennsylvania.

SECTION 4 This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
