Metropolitan Council Meeting
Tuesday, April 5, 2005


The Metropolitan Council met in regular session on this date at 7:00 p.m. in Metro City Hall.

The invocation was offered by Reverend Sonny Lyons of Lake Providence Baptist Church.

The Metropolitan Council gave the pledge of allegiance to the American Flag.

Reappointment of Mr. James H. Cheek III for a term expiring April 5, 2009. The Rules-Confirmations-Public Elections Committee recommended the reappointment and Mr. Coleman moved for confirmation, which motion was seconded and adopted by a unanimous vote of the Council.

Reappointment of Mr. Robert (Bert) C. H. Mathews III for a term expiring April 5, 2009. The Rules-Confirmations-Public Elections Committee recommended the reappointment and Mr. Coleman moved for confirmation, which motion was seconded and adopted by a unanimous vote of the Council.

Civil Service Commission

Reappointment of Ms. Gwen McFarland for a term expiring April 3, 2010. At the request of the appointee, the nomination was deferred.

Work Release Commission
Reappointment of Father Edward Steiner for a term expiring December 31, 2008. The Rules-Confirmations-Public Elections Committee recommended the reappointment and Mr. Coleman moved for confirmation, which motion was seconded and adopted by a unanimous vote of the Council.

Board of Zoning Appeals
Reappointment of Ms. Ibba Surface for a term expiring February 26, 2010\9. The Rules-Confirmations-Public Elections Committee recommended the reappointment and Mr. Coleman moved for confirmation, which motion was seconded and adopted by a unanimous vote of the Council.

A resolution approving a contract by and between the Metropolitan Board of Health and the State of Tennessee, Department of Health, for the purchase of behavioral risk factor surveillance survey interviews. A resolution approving and authorizing the Mayor to execute a revised amending agreement with the State of Tennessee Department of Transportation and CSX Transportation Inc. regarding improvements to the Demonbreun Street Bridge in accordance with Federal Project No. BR-STP-3249(2). A resolution requesting the Mayor, the Mayor's Office of Economic Development, and the Director of Tourism to report to the Council regarding the actions required to locate a major destination family theme park in Nashville, as requested by Resolution No. RS2004-427. A resolution requesting the Metropolitan Nashville Fire Department to delay purchasing an automated staff scheduling program, as authorized by Resolution No. RS2005-724. The Public Safety-Beer and Regulated Beverages Committee recommended deferment. Mr. Greer moved to suspend the rules to override the committee recommendation, and no objection was made.
