RESOLUTION NO. 2005-775

A resolution requesting the Metropolitan Nashville Fire Department to delay purchasing an automated staff scheduling program, as authorized by Resolution No. RS2005-724.

WHEREAS, on March 15, 2005, the Metropolitan Council adopted Resolution No. RS2005-724 appropriating the amount of $3,448,200 from the General Find Reserve Fund (4% Fund) for the purchase of equipment for the Nashville Fire Department; and

WHEREAS, one of the purchases authorized by Resolution No. RS2005-724 was for an automated staff scheduling program identified as "Principal Decision Systems International (PSDI) Telestaff" at a cost of $180,000; and

WHEREAS, the Fire Department employs personnel that can adequately address staff scheduling without the need for an expensive computer system; and

WHEREAS, due to the precarious financial condition currently facing the Metropolitan Government as a result of a decline in state-shared taxes and the possible implementation of the Streamlined Sales Tax, the Council has reached the conclusion that the purchase of a $180,000 automated scheduling program is not justified at this time; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Nashville Fire Department not purchase this computer scheduling program.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Metropolitan Nashville Fire Department to delay purchasing an automated staff scheduling program, as authorized by Resolution No. RS2005-724.

Section 2. That the Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Resolution by U.S. mail, interdepartmental mail, or electronic mail to Fire Chief Stephen Halford.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
