Metropolitan Council Meeting

The Metropolitan Council met in regular session on this date at 6:30 p.m. in the Metropolitan Courthouse.

The invocation was offered by Councilman Lonnell Matthews.

The Metropolitan Council gave the pledge of allegiance to the American Flag.

- ELECTIONS AND CONFIRMATIONS -

Convention Center Commission
Reappointment of Ms. Erika Wollum Nichols for a term expiring June 7, 2012. At the request of the nominee, the confirmation was deferred.

Historical Commission
Appointment of Mr. David Currey for a term expiring August 10, 2013. The Rules-Confirmations-Public Elections Committee recommended the appointment and Ms. Page moved for confirmation, which motion was seconded and adopted by a unanimous vote of the Council.

Industrial Development Board
The President called for nomination to fill three (3) vacancies on the Industrial Development Board of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County for terms expiring August 23, 2015. Mr. Gotto nominated Mr. John C. Hobbs; Mr. Steine nominated Mr. Nicholas D. Bailey; Mr. Maynard nominated Mr. Walter T. Searcy III; Mr. Coleman nominated Mr. Carnell Scruggs. There being no further nominations the President declared the nominations closed. The nominees were referred to the Rules-Confirmations-Public Elections Committee for a recommendation, and an election will be conducted at the next regular meeting of the Council.

Community Education Commission
The President announced that the Council is to appoint three (3) persons to the newly-created Community Education Commission. Nominations must be filed with the Metropolitan Clerk not later than 4:00 pm on Tuesday, September 22, 2009. Nominees will be referred to the Rules-Confirmations-Public Elections Committee for a recommendation, and an election will be conducted at the next regular meeting of the Council.

RESOLUTION NO. RS2009-912

A resolution appointing the initial board of directors to The Convention Center Authority of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County. The Rules-Confirmations-Public Elections Committee recommended withdrawal. Ms. Page moved to withdraw the resolution, which motion was seconded and adopted by a voice vote of the Council.

RESOLUTION NO. RS2009-913

A resolution approving the Second Amended Final Agreement with the United States Department of Justice and The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County for structural changes to public buildings and facilities, excluding schools. A resolution approving an application for a Data Driven Approach to Crime and Traffic Safety (DDACTS) Grant from the United States Department of Transportation to The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, acting by and through the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, to conduct proactive patrolling of areas with high traffic and incidents of crime. A resolution approving an intergovernmental agreement between The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County and the State of Tennessee, by and through the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency, to accept grant funds to be distributed between the various counties included in the Nashville Urban Area Security Initiative for homeland security projects.
