RESOLUTION NO. RS2009-920

A resolution approving an intergovernmental agreement between The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County and the State of Tennessee, by and through the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency, to accept grant funds to be distributed between the various counties included in the Nashville Urban Area Security Initiative for homeland security projects.

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Government Mayor’s Office of Emergency Management serves as the point of contact for the Nashville Urban Area Security Initiative (“Nashville UASI”); and,

WHEREAS, the Nashville UASI receives funds from the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (“TEMA”) under Homeland Security Grant No. 2009-SS-T9-0086, which is administered by the United States Department of Homeland Security; and,

WHEREAS, the Nashville UASI has been awarded funds pursuant to this grant in an amount not to exceed $3,171,960.05, to be distributed between the various counties included in the Nashville UASI; and,

WHEREAS, this grant program requires an intergovernmental agreement in the form of a “Letter of Acceptance” signed by the Metropolitan Mayor before grant contracts for the individual counties can be generated; and,

WHEREAS, T.C.A. § 12-9-104 authorizes the Metropolitan Government to enter into intergovernmental agreements with agencies of the state government with the approval of the Metropolitan Council by resolution; and,

WHEREAS, it is in the interest of the citizens of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County that this intergovernmental agreement be approved.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the intergovernmental agreement by and between The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County and the State of Tennessee, by and through the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency, to accept funds in the amount of $3,171,960.05 on behalf of the Nashville Urban Area Security Initiative, is hereby approved, and the Metropolitan Mayor is hereby authorized to execute the same.

Section 2. That this resolution shall become effective from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
