SUBSTITUTE RESOLUTION NO. RS2009-917

A resolution accepting an Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant from the United States Department of Justice to The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime pursuant to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

WHEREAS, the United States Department of Justice has awarded an Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant in an amount not to exceed $3,831,717.00, with no cash match required, to be allocated in part as follows: Metropolitan Police Department $2,745,808.62, Drug Court $172,697.07, Sheriff $146,775.30, Public Schools $132,632.25, District Attorney $116,969.11, Justice Integration Services $58,303.74, Juvenile Court $35,934.64, Public Defender $19,140.91 and Parks and Recreation $20,283.66;

WHEREAS, the proposed allocation of the remaining $383,171.70 will be determined by the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department in conjunction with the Department of Justice and pursuant to the requirements of the grant, and will be submitted to the Metropolitan Council for allocation at a later time.

WHEREAS, it is to the benefit of the citizens of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County that this grant be accepted.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant, by and between the United States Department of Justice, in an amount not to exceed $3,831,717.00, to The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime pursuant to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, a copy of which grant is attached hereto and incorporated herein, is hereby approved, and the Metropolitan Mayor is authorized to execute the same.

Section 2. That the amount of this grant is to be appropriated to the Metropolitan Police Department $2,745,808.62, Drug Court $172,697.07, Sheriff $146,775.30, Public Schools $132,632.25, District Attorney $116,969.11, Justice Integration Services $58,303.74, Juvenile Court $35,934.64, Public Defender $19,140.91 and Parks and Recreation $20,283.66, based on revenues estimated to be received and any match to be applied.

Section 3. That this resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
