RESOLUTION NO. RS2016-198

A resolution approving a letter of agreement between the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County and WGU Tennessee to assist with employee development goals by offering tuition discount to Metropolitan Government employees.

WHEREAS, both Western Governors University Tennessee (“WGU Tennessee”) and the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County (“Metropolitan Government”) desire to collaborate in providing continuing education opportunities for employees of the Metropolitan Government; and,

WHEREAS, WGU Tennessee is a nonprofit, online university established by the state of Tennessee through a partnership with Western Governors University to expand access to higher education for Tennessee residents; and,

WHEREAS, WGU Tennessee offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in career fields such as K-12 teacher education, business, information technology, and nursing; and,

WHEREAS, as reflected in the Letter of Agreement attached hereto, WGU Tennessee will offer Metropolitan Government employees a five percent (5%) tuition discount for up to four (4) academic terms; and,

WHEREAS, it is in the best interests of the citizens of the Metropolitan Government that the Letter of Agreement be approved.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY.

Section 1. The Letter of Agreement between the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County and WGU Tennessee, to assist with employee development goals by offering discounted tuition to Metropolitan Government employees, attached hereto and incorporated herein, is hereby approved and the Metropolitan Mayor is authorized to execute the same.

Section 2. This resolution shall take effect from and after its passage, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
