RESOLUTION RS2017-997

A resolution recognizing Doug Sloan upon his departure from the Metro Planning Department.

WHEREAS, Doug Sloan has served as an employee of the Metropolitan Government since 1997, beginning with his role as a courier for the Metro Legal Department; and

WHEREAS, he worked his way through law school, obtained his license to practice law, and went to work as an Assistant Metropolitan Attorney under the leadership of then Director of Law, Karl Dean; and

WHEREAS, he was promoted to Senior Attorney and led the team that handled land use, development, real estate, state legislation, as well as serving as the Metro Legal Department’s liaison to the Metro Council; and

WHEREAS, in the perilous hours immediately following the Flood of 2010, he was dispatched to the Metropolitan Government’s Emergency Command Center, and eventually assigned to the Mayor’s Office to spend countless hours managing flood relief efforts, home buyouts for flooded property, and the maze of legal issues in the months that followed; and

WHEREAS, he was hired as the Deputy Director of the Metro Planning Department in 2012, at a time that marked the beginning of the biggest sustained development boom in the history of the Metropolitan Government, as well as the multi-year effort that produced the Nashville Next general plan for the Metropolitan Government; and

WHEREAS, he was hired as the Executive Director of the Metro Planning Department in 2016, and guided the department’s assembly of a world-class staff of employees, deployment of technological tools and solutions, and crucial research for Nashville’s long-term planning objectives; and

WHEREAS, as a native Nashvillian, Doug Sloan has maintained his respectful appreciation of what Nashville has been, continued his diligent daily work on what Nashville is today, and inspired all of our hopes for what Nashville can become tomorrow; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes and congratulates Doug Sloan upon the conclusion of his work with the Metropolitan Government, and the beginning of his career with the Metro Nashville Airport Authority.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Doug Sloan upon the occasion of his departure from the Metro Planning Department.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Doug Sloan.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
