RESOLUTION RS2017-904

A resolution recognizing Mr. Benjamin F. Flagg and Mrs. Genora Flagg for 70 years of marriage, operating a successful business for over 60 years, and for their contributions to the city of Nashville.

WHEREAS, Mr. Benjamin F. Flagg and Mrs. Genora Flagg are highly esteemed citizens of the Nashville community; and

WHEREAS, Benjamin and Genora grew up in the small town of Nutbush in West Tennessee. Benjamin was drafted to serve in World War II. He trained at Camp Swift in Texas and at Camp Pork in New York before he was shipped out to England and France to serve his country. He served until the end of the war. After an honorable discharge, Benjamin returned to his hometown, graduating from high school as Class President and meeting the love of his life, and now devoted wife, Genora; and

WHEREAS, Benjamin continued his education at Tolers Business College in Paris, TN and Tennessee State University, in Nashville, TN; and

WHEREAS, Genora is the oldest of fourteen siblings; and

WHEREAS, Genora eventually retired from Meharry Medical Hospital after 45 years where she served in several positions; including Manager of Radiology Medical Records; and

WHEREAS, Benjamin and Genora continue to celebrate life and love with their two daughters, Janet and Iris; and

WHEREAS, Benjamin has continued to work at Flagg’s Barbershop for over 60 years, and owns one of the oldest continuously running businesses in South Nashville; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Mr. Benjamin F. Flagg and Mrs. Genora Flagg upon the celebration of 70 years of marriage and for their many contributions to the city of Nashville.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing and honoring Mr. Benjamin F. and Mrs. Genora Flagg for 70 years of marriage, operating a successful business for over 60 years, and for their contributions to the city of Nashville.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin F. Flagg.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
