RESOLUTION NO. RS2017-855

A resolution congratulating John F. Kennedy Middle School student Angelina Bautista on her acceptance into the Nashville Symphony Accelerando program.

WHEREAS, on August 18, 2017, the Nashville Symphony announced Angelina Bautista of John F. Kennedy Middle School as one of four local students selected for the second class of Accelerando; and

WHEREAS, Accelerando is a groundbreaking music education initiative designed to facilitate the studies of gifted young musicians from diverse backgrounds and prepare them for careers in music; and

WHEREAS, launched in 2016, Accelerando seeks to create opportunities for talented student musicians from ethnic communities by providing them with mentorship and educational experiences; and

WHEREAS, through the Accelerando program, students receive intensive private lessons with members of the orchestra, group master classes, theory courses, and juried performance evaluations; and

WHEREAS, Accelerando’s vigorous coursework prepares and supports students as they audition for conservatories and university music programs; and

WHEREAS, Accelerando program manager Kimberly Kraft, said “each of these students possesses the talent and drive to make an impact on the future of American orchestras,” and

WHEREAS, Angelina Bautista demonstrates a rare devotion to her craft and a high degree of proficiency as an oboist; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council congratulate Angelina Bautista for her remarkable achievement as she begins her involvement with Accelerando.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Angelina Bautista for her commitment to the study of music, and her acceptance into the Nashville Symphony’s Accelerando Program.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Angelina Bautista.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
