RESOLUTION NO. RS2017-662

A resolution recognizing May 1 through May 5, 2017, as “Show Your Love for Teachers” Kick-off Week in Metropolitan Nashville/Davidson County.

WHEREAS, the 6,800 educators throughout Metro Nashville Public Schools work tirelessly each day to educate MNPS’ 88,000 students; and

WHEREAS, the system’s 168 schools are dedicated to the education of students and to providing a rewarding workplace for all teachers; and

WHEREAS, a great public education system is essential for the future of our growing city; and

WHEREAS, the Nashville Public Education Foundation is joining with the school system, the Mayor’s Office and many other community partners to honor public school educators and the lasting positive impact they have on thousands of kids’ lives through a month long “Show Your Love for Teachers” campaign; and

WHEREAS, the successful 2016 Show Your Love for Teachers campaign spurred the goal of creating the largest educator discount program in the Southeast; and

WHEREAS, our teachers deserve proper recognition and thanks for their work and commitment; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Show Your Love for Teachers Kick-off Week to launch this second annual citywide effort, and encourage all residents and businesses to recognize the educators who contribute to our city’s success and future on a daily basis,

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing May 1 through May 5, 2017, as “Show Your Love for Teachers” Kick-off Week in Metropolitan Nashville/Davidson County.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to the Nashville Public Education Foundation and MNPS representatives.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
