A resolution recognizing Family & Children’s Service.

WHEREAS, in 2017, Family & Children’s Service celebrates its 75th year of service as one of Nashville’s oldest and most respected nonprofits; and

WHEREAS, Family & Children’s Service serves all Tennesseans in crisis and transition by meeting them where they are, understanding their needs, and connecting them to the resources they need; and

WHEREAS, Family & Children’s Service often ‘fills in the gaps’ in social services, creating a safety net to ensure that all children and families can be safe and healthy; and

WHEREAS, Family & Children’s Service offers a variety of programs and services such as counseling, community-based services and access to health care and from there each program and/or service addresses that individuals need; and

WHEREAS, those services include:

Counseling Clinical therapists located at FCS and other community-based locations provide low and no-cost (based on income) individual and family counseling services to those who need them most. Therapists help clients with a full range of issues from marriage and family counseling to domestic violence and substance abuse.

Family Focused Solutions helps families receiving TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) overcome barriers to self-sufficiency, allowing them to end their dependence on welfare assistance. Participants address mental health, domestic violence, substance use, child behavioral, and health issues.

SOSL (Survivors of Suicide Loss) support groups are offered at no cost to those who have lost a loved one to suicide. As many as one in four survivors of suicide will attempt suicide themselves. These groups offer the healing of shared experience in a safe environment.

The Crisis Line provides free telephone counseling and support to anyone experiencing a crisis, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Crisis counselors assist callers struggling with thoughts of suicide, grief, depression, anxiety, domestic violence, divorce, parenting problems, addiction or serious mental illness. Language translation services are available; and

WHEREAS, to this day, Family & Children’s Service has partnered up with many businesses in the community, remain true to its vision and is one of the most stable, thriving, non-profit organizations in Nashville; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Family & Children’s Service for the significant impact they have made and continue to make.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Family & Children’s Service.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Family & Children’s Service.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
