RESOLUTION NO. RS2016-381

A resolution requesting that the Tennessee Department of Transportation prioritize certain projects within Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County.

WHEREAS, the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) is responsible for the state system of highways and interstate highways in Tennessee pursuant to Tennessee Code Annotated §54-1-126; and

WHEREAS, fixing current infrastructure and improving roadways in and around Nashville are of critical importance in both maintaining the economic growth of the metropolitan area and supporting the increase in density in the region; and

WHEREAS, due to this need, two roadway projects within Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County merit immediate attention from TDOT; and

WHEREAS, the first of these projects is the I-440 Pavement Replacement and Safety Improvements project, identified as a need by TDOT’s “New Projects” list; and

WHEREAS, the second project is to widen Charlotte Pike between White Bridge Road and River Road Pike, designated as a Countywide Critical Need by the NashvilleNext plan adopted in 2015 by the Metropolitan Planning Commission; and

WHEREAS, these two roadway projects are considered high priorities by the Metropolitan Council as a way to improve transportation and reduce traffic in the region.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as requesting that the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) prioritize the resurfacing of Interstate 440 and the widening of Charlotte Pike between White Bridge Road and River Road Pike.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Resolution to the TDOT Commissioner, ¬¬¬John Schroer.

Section 3. This resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
