RESOLUTION NO. RS2016-334

A resolution approving an interlocal agreement by and between The City of Brentwood and The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, acting by and through the Metropolitan Department of Public Works, for cooperation of regional traffic signal management in the area jointly bordered in southern Davidson County and northern Williamson County.

WHEREAS, The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County and The City of Brentwood seek to enter into an interlocal agreement for cooperation of regional traffic signal management in the area jointly bordered in southern Davidson County and northern Williamson County; and,

WHEREAS, The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County and the City of Brentwood recognize the mutual and exclusive benefits resulting from an integrated corridor management system and master planning of traffic signal operations, and wish to implement a multi-jurisdictional signal synchronization to enhance regional traffic flow and reduce congestion; and,

WHEREAS, the proposed coordination effort encompasses and affects traffic signals along Old Hickory Boulevard, Franklin Road and East Church Street in Davidson County and Franklin Road, Maryland Way and East Church Street in Williamson; and,

WHEREAS, Tennessee Code Annotated, Sections 12-9-101, et seq., 12-9-104(b), and 12-3-1009 authorize The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County to enter into intergovernmental agreements by resolution; and,

WHEREAS, it is to the benefit of the citizens of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County that this intergovernmental agreement be approved.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That an interlocal agreement by and between The City of Brentwood and The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, acting by and through the Metropolitan Department of Public Works, for cooperation of regional traffic signal management in the area jointly bordered in southern Davidson County and northern Williamson County, a copy of which is attached hereto and incorporated herein, is hereby approved, and the Metropolitan Mayor is authorized to execute the same.

Section 2. Any amendments, renewals, or extension of the terms of the agreement may be approved by resolution of the Metropolitan Council.

Section 3. That this resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
