RESOLUTION NO. RS2016-243
A resolution recognizing May, as National Military Appreciation Month.
WHEREAS, National Military Appreciation Month includes Loyalty Day, VE Day, Armed Forces Day and Memorial Day in honoring, remembering, recognizing all men and women who have served the Armed Forces; and
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County has a responsibility to raise awareness of the principles of patriotism, freedom and democracy; and
WHEREAS, Davidson County is home to more than 37,000 veterans and families; and
WHEREAS, the observance recognizes the sacrifices of all who now serve in uniform, and have served for the preservation of freedom; and
WHEREAS, in honoring the dedicated men and women, who have served in defense of this nation, this month commemorates their service and sacrifice; and
WHEREAS, the month of May has been designated as National Military Appreciation Month to honor, remember, recognize and appreciate all past and present military personnel who have worn the uniform and served our country and to memorialize all those who have given their lives in defense of freedom as well as show appreciation to their families; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes the month of May as Military Appreciation Month to honor those who died in service in pursuit of freedom and peace for the United States and those who continue to serve the Nation.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing May, as National Military Appreciation Month.
Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
