RESOLUTION NO. RS2015-1621

A resolution approving a joint funding agreement with the United States Department of the Interior, United States Geological Survey, to acquire LiDAR derived high-resolution elevation data for Nashville and Davidson County.

WHEREAS, the United States Department of the Interior, United States Geological Survey, is able to provide LiDAR derived high-resolution elevation data for Nashville and Davidson County, Tennessee by agreement; and,

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County by and through the Metropolitan Planning Department desires to enter into an agreement for the acquisition of such LiDAR data, specifically for National Enhanced Elevation Assessment (NEEA) Quality Level 2 (QL2) LiDAR data to cover the full extent of Davidson County Tennessee, totaling approximately 525 square miles; and,

WHEREAS, this project also supports homeland security requirements of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) and the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) and will advance USGS efforts related to The 3D Elevation Program (3DEP) initiative, the National Map, and the National Elevation Dataset; and,

WHEREAS, the National Map is the product of a consortium of Federal, State, and local partners who provide geospatial data to enhance America's ability to access, integrate, and apply geospatial data at global, national, and local scales; and,

WHEREAS, a cooperative relationship between Federal, State, and local geospatial data producing agencies is essential for the development of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) and successful implementation of The National Map; and,

WHEREAS, the United States Department of the Interior, United States Geological Survey, and the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County wish to participate in the joint funding of this project at a cost not to exceed $177,458.00 to the Metropolitan Government, as set forth in the agreement; and,

WHEREAS, Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 12-9-104 authorizes the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County to enter agreements with United States agencies by resolution.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Joint Funding Agreement to acquire LiDAR derived high-resolution elevation data for Nashville and Davidson County, Tennessee between the United States Department of the Interior, United States Geological Survey, and the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, attached hereto and incorporated herein, is hereby approved, and the Metropolitan Mayor is authorized to execute the same.

Section 2. That this resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
