RESOLUTION NO. RS2015-1606

A resolution approving a grant contract to United Way of Metropolitan Nashville from the Metropolitan Government for the continuation of the Nashville Financial Empowerment Center.

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Government has been overseeing the operation of Nashville Financial Empowerment Center in conjunction with United Way of Metropolitan Nashville through a grant from the Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund approved by RS2013-560; and

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Government is leveraging opportunities unique to local government to improve the financial stability of households across Davidson County; and

WHEREAS, to date, over 3,200 Nashvillians have been provided with free, one-on-one financial counseling and assistance via over 10,000 individual counseling sessions since March of 2013; and

WHEREAS, the funding for the grant provides for the operation of the Financial Empowerment Centers through December of 2015; and

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council has approved local funding through the budget to continue the operation of the Nashville Financial Empowerment Center through the end of this fiscal year; and

WHEREAS, the partnership with United Way of Metropolitan Nashville in the operation of the Nashville Financial Empowerment Center has been beneficial for both parties; and

WHEREAS, approval of this Contract will benefit the citizens of Davidson County by continuing this partnership.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Contract between The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County and United Way of Metropolitan Nashville, attached hereto and incorporated herein, is hereby approved.

Section 2. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
