RESOLUTION NO. RS2015-1514

A resolution honoring Father Philip M. Breen on his Golden Jubilee and Retirement.

WHEREAS, for more than 25 years, Father Philip M. Breen has been St. Ann’s Catholic Church’s pastor and on June 5, 2015 we celebrate his 50th anniversary as an ordained minister as well as his retirement; and

WHEREAS, Father Philip Breen was raised in Nashville, attended Christ the King and Father Ryan before attending St. Bernard Seminary in St. Bernard, Alabama and St. Mary’s Seminary in Baltimore, Maryland then after attending seminary he was ordained on May 22, 1965 at the Cathedral of the Incarnation, Nashville; and

WHEREAS, he has been a fixture on the religious scene in Tennessee for decades and has drawn from his education and wealth of experience during his years in the priesthood to both support and inspire parishioners to move their church forward to keep pace with the diverse needs of today’s rapidly changing society; and

WHEREAS, his commitment to God, his total allegiance to the infallibility of the Bible, his spiritual leadership and his love of his fellow man have been demonstrated over the past 50 years and is worthy of all due respect and admiration; and

WHEREAS, he has held leadership positions in many notable organizations, served on a variety of boards, councils, and committees, has continually supported outreach programs and ministries and actively participates in many other worthwhile causes; and

WHEREAS, he has received numerous awards recognizing his work including the Eternal Light Award; and

WHEREAS, his integrity and compassion have become renown, escalating him to the position of being one of the most well-regarded members of the clergy in Tennessee; especially the Diocese of Nashville; and

WHEREAS, professional accomplishments aside, Father Breen is the proud son of Philip and Ann Marie Breen; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Father Philip M. Breen and extend our wishes for a happy and fulfilling retirement and commend him for his 50 years of service and spiritual inspiration.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as honoring Father Philip M. Breen on his Golden Jubilee and Retirement.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Father Philip M. Breen.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
