RESOLUTION NO. RS2015-1477

A resolution recognizing Dr. Adrienne Koger, executive principal of Antioch High School on being the recipient of the 2015 William J. and Lucille H. Field Award.

WHEREAS, Antioch High School principal Dr. Adrienne Koger is the recipient of the prestigious William J. and Lucille H. Field Award for excellence in Tennessee Secondary School Leadership by the University of Tennessee-Knoxville; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Koger has been an educator for 12 years and is an alumna of Metro Schools, graduating from John Overton High School. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Missouri State University. She later continued her advanced studies at Tennessee State University where she obtained her Master’s, Educational Specialist and Doctoral degrees. She has been principal of Antioch High School for 3 years; and

WHEREAS, the William J. and Lucille H. Field Award established in 2001, identifies a Tennessee secondary school principal whose life and work are characterized by leadership excellence. It recognizes those who demonstrate the values of civility, candor, courage, social justice, responsibility, compassion, community, persistence and service in and through their work; and

WHERAS, during Dr. Koger’s tenure, Antioch High School was designated a 2014 Tennessee Reward School and named a 2015 Model School by the International Center for Leadership in Education. Additionally, school overall growth performance has consistently increased. According to the Tennessee Value Added Assessment System (TVAAS), student performance has made substantially more progress than the standard for academic growth in the state with level 5 ratings for literacy, numeracy and overall composite over the last two years. The school has also won a grant from NASA, been accepted as a candidate to become IB World School, launched the Community Achieves program and won the Academies of Nashville Ninth Grade Academy of the Year award; and

WHEREAS, under Dr. Koger’s leadership the school has seen tremendous academic gains, a significant increase in student academic performance, ACT composite growth, graduation rate and attendance rates and school overall growth performance has continually increased; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Koger is to be commended for her commitment to the improvement of education, development of innovative programs, and vision for improving the educational culture, climate, and experience from a wide range of backgrounds through her work that will continue to positively impact the lives of the students she so selflessly serves on a day to day bases; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Dr. Adrienne Koger on receiving the William J. and Lucille H. Field Award and for her continuing dedication, leadership and service of excellence.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Dr. Adrienne Koger, executive principal of Antioch High School on being the recipient of the 2015 William J. and Lucille H. Field Award.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Dr. Adrienne Koger

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
