RESOLUTION NO. RS2015-1442

A resolution recognizing the Madison Suburban Utility District.

WHEREAS, the Madison Suburban Utility District received notification from the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) that during their January 2015 evaluation by staff, the District earned a 100% score for operational performance from the State; and

WHEREAS, In the required Sanitary Survey of Public Water Systems from January 2015, Madison Suburban was evaluated and found “Approved” by TDEC, and scored at 100% and in its two immediate prior evaluations, Madison Suburban scored high with a 98% and a 100%; and

WHEREAS, Madison Suburban Utility District is the oldest non-municipal water system in the State of Tennessee, formed under the 1937 Utility District’s Act by the Tennessee Legislature in that The District operates in Davidson County as a governmental utility district serving water to a population of over 70,000 in Madison, Inglewood, Goodlettsville, Dalemere and the Bellshire areas; and

WHEREAS, led by its Board of Commissioners, President Richard Odom, Vice-President John Wade, and Secretary Tim Garrett, the Utility District has a long and storied commitment to excellence in operations, and through strategic planning, The District has grown over the years from being the water supply to one private home into one of Tennessee’s largest utility districts; and

WHEREAS, since the late 1980’s a progressive water main replacement program has been effective in minimizing weather related interruptions of water service within the system, and added daily storage has been systematically increased to meet the demands of a growing community by installing and upgrading our water storage tanks and pumping facilities and in the last year alone, Madison Suburban has completed improvements to system infra-structure replacing aging lines, continuing its meter testing and replacement program, adding additional fire hydrants, and relocating and consolidating primary power service to higher elevations at the water treatment plant for added flood protection; and

WHEREAS, a planned replacement of water mains to the North Graycroft Area of Madison is scheduled to begin in early May 2015; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes the Madison Suburban Utility District for their operational performance score of 100% and for their continuing hard work and dedication to excellence while operating the public water system.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the recognizing the Madison Suburban Utility District.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to the Board of Commissioners, Mr. Richard Odom, Mr. John Wade and Mr. Tim Garrett.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
