RESOLUTION NO. RS2015-1439

A resolution proclaiming the week of May 17-23, 2015, as Public Works Week in Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County.

WHEREAS, public works services provided in our community are an integral part of our citizen’s everyday lives; and

WHEREAS, the support of an understanding and informed citizenry is vital to the efficient operation of public works systems and programs such as streets and roads, refuse collection, recycling, traffic and parking management, and bridge design; and

WHEREAS, the quality and effectiveness of these facilities, as well as their planning, design, and construction, is vitally dependent upon the efforts and skill of public works officials; and

WHEREAS, the efficiency of the qualified and dedicated personnel who staff public works departments is materially influenced by the people's attitude and understanding of the importance of the work they perform; and

WHEREAS, the year 2015 marks the 55th annual National Public Works Week sponsored by the American Public Works Association as an annual reminder of the many ways public works contributes to our quality of life.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as proclaiming the week of May 17-23, 2014, as Public Works Week in Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County, and we call upon all citizens and civic organizations to acquaint themselves with the issues involved in providing public works services, and to recognize the contributions which public works employees and officials make every day to our health, safety, comfort, and quality of life.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution in honor of National Public Works Week.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
