SUBSTITUTE RESOLUTION NO. RS2015-1400

A resolution declaring May 14, 2015 as Stand With Israel Day in Nashville, Tennessee.

WHEREAS, the State of Israel is the greatest ally to the United States in the Middle East; and

WHEREAS, the United States of America was the first country to recognize the new State of Israel on May 14, 1948; and

WHEREAS, Israel has a history of strong partnership with Nashville and the State of Tennessee; and

WHEREAS, Nashville has a vibrant and prominent Jewish-American community that dates back to the early 1800s; and

WHEREAS, Nashville’s Jewry was involved in the creation of the State of Israel, and has been active in its continued existence and growth; and

WHEREAS, Nashville has consistently been a community that expresses its support for Israel and the Jewish people; and

WHEREAS, people from all walks of life and organizations in Nashville have come together in support of Israel; and

WHEREAS, one such organization is Christians United for Israel, which recently surpassed the two million membership mark; and

WHEREAS, more than 200,000 Tennesseans are members of Christians United for Israel; and

WHEREAS, there are vibrant campus chapters of Christians United for Israel at Middle Tennessee State University and Vanderbilt University; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council show support for the State of Israel by declaring May 14, 2015 as Stand With Israel Day.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan County Council hereby affirms its support of the State of Israel by declaring May 14, 2015 as Stand With Israel Day in Nashville, Tennessee.

Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
