RESOLUTION NO. RS2014-991

A resolution approving a memorandum of understanding for a grant between The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, acting by and through the Mayor’s Office, and the Fund for Cities of Service, Inc. to fund the implementation of Team Dean Reading Coaches using impact volunteering as a key strategy.

WHEREAS, The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, acting by and through the Mayor’s Office, and the Fund for Cities of Service, Inc., wish to enter into a memorandum of understanding for a grant of up to $30,000.00 to fund the implementation of Team Dean Reading Coaches using impact volunteering as a key strategy; and,

WHEREAS, the Mayor’s Office and Martha O’Bryan Center wish to enter into a subgrant agreement for the provision of trained volunteer mentors to work with middle school students to improve reading skills; and,

WHEREAS, this agreement and these funds will supplement the grant agreement previously entered into by the Metropolitan Government and the Tennessee Commission on Children and Youth approved by RS2013-882, and,

WHEREAS, it is to the benefit of the citizens of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County that this memorandum of understanding be approved.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the memorandum of understanding by and between the Fund for Cities of Service, Inc. and The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, acting by and through the Mayor’s Office, to fund the implementation of Team Dean Reading Coaches using impact volunteering as a key strategy, a copy of which is attached hereto and incorporated herein, is hereby approved, and the Metropolitan Mayor is authorized to execute the same.

Section 2. That the amount of this grant be appropriated to the Mayor’s Office based on revenues estimated to be received and any match to be applied.

Section 3. That the subgrant agreement by and between the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, acting by and through the Mayor’s Office, and Martha O’Bryan Center to implement the Team Dean Reading Coaches initiative, a copy of which subgrant is attached hereto and incorporated herein, is hereby approved.

Section 4. That this resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
