SUBSTITUTE RESOLUTION NO. RS2014-948

A resolution appropriating Four Million Three Hundred Thousand Dollars ($4,300,000) from the Undesignated Fund Balance of the Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools General Purpose Fund for the benefit of Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools.

WHEREAS, on November 12, 2013, the Metropolitan Board of Public Education voted to authorize the use of $19,100,000 of the schools undesignated fund balance to fund a teacher retirement incentive and for technology to implement the Common Core standards for Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools (MNPS); and

WHEREAS, on December 17, 2013, the Metropolitan Council approved Resolution No. RS2013-930 to appropriate $4,300,000 from the schools undesignated fund balance to fund only the teacher retirement incentive; and

WHEREAS, on February 4, 2014, the Metropolitan Council approved Substitute Resolution No. RS2014-963 determining to issue $6 million in general obligation bonds for the purchase of school technology equipment, which is to be used to purchase 8,600 laptop computers for the implementation of the Common Core testing; and

WHEREAS, MNPS is still in need of $4,300,000 for the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) testing training; and; and

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council desires to appropriate Four Million Three Hundred Thousand Dollars ($4,300,000) for this purpose to MNPS from the undesignated fund balance of the Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools General Purpose Fund.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the sum of Four Million Three Hundred Thousand Dollars ($4,300,000) is hereby appropriated from the Undesignated Fund Balance of the Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools General Purpose Fund (Revenue Account # 35131.335000) to the MNPS General Purpose Fund Operational Account (BU-80111000).

Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
