RESOLUTION NO. RS2014-1299
A resolution recognizing local Davidson County small businesses and merchants and proclaiming Saturday, November 29, 2014, as Small Business Saturday.
WHEREAS, small businesses are the backbone of our economy and the glue that holds our community together; and
WHEREAS, small businesses employ one-half of all private sector workers in the United States; and
WHEREAS, according to the United States Small Business Administration, small business created 65 percent of net new jobs over the past two decades; and
WHEREAS, 70 percent of businesses within the Nashville Metropolitan Statistical Area have fewer than 10 employees, and 84 percent have fewer than 20 employees; and
WHEREAS, it is well known that our local businesses create jobs, boost our local economy, and preserve our neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, other cities, advocacy groups, and public and private organizations across our country have endorsed the Saturday after Thanksgiving as “Small Business Saturday”; and
WHEREAS, residents of our community, and communities across the country, are being asked to support small businesses and merchants on Small Business Saturday and throughout the year; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize and honor local Davidson County small businesses and merchants, and urge Nashville’s residents to support such small businesses and merchants on Small Business Saturday.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDOSN COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing local Davidson County small businesses and merchants by proclaiming Saturday, November 29, 2014, as Small Business Saturday. Further, the Metropolitan Council requests all residents of Davidson County to support our local small businesses and merchants on Small Business Saturday and throughout the year.
Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
