RESOLUTION NO. RS2014-1236

A resolution approving the appointment of Lisa Kiss as the Veterans Service Officer for the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County.

WHEREAS, Veterans Service Officers assist veterans of the United States armed forces in obtaining rights, immunities and benefits to which they may be entitled under state or federal law; and,

WHEREAS, Tenn. Code Ann. § 58-3-111(c) states that “Veterans’ Service Officers shall have the authority to administer oaths and to take acknowledgments related to any matter falling within the scope of authority of their office, including the presentation of claims and other functions incident to obtaining benefits for discharged veterans”; and,

WHEREAS, Tenn. Code Ann. § 58-3-111(a) provides that the Veterans Service Officer shall be chosen by the governing body of the political subdivision by which the Officer is to be employed; and,

WHEREAS, Tenn. Code Ann. § 58-3-111(c) specifies that all Veterans Service Officers shall be honorably discharged veterans of the United States armed forces; and,

WHEREAS, the Acting Director of Human Resources interviewed several candidates for the position of Veterans Service Officer, who were referred to the Metropolitan Government by the Tennessee Department of Veterans Affairs; and,

WHEREAS, the Acting Director of Human Resources has recommended that Lisa Kiss, an honorably discharged veteran of the United States armed forces, who has previous experience working with veterans, be appointed as the Veterans Service Officer.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the appointment of Lisa Kiss as Veterans Service Officer for the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County is hereby approved.

Section 2. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
