RESOLUTION NO. RS2014-1190

A resolution recognizing the Scottsboro Community Club located in North Nashville.

WHEREAS, focused on community service the Scottsboro Community Club, a member of the Davidson County Council of Community Clubs, is composed of individuals of all ages and backgrounds who are dedicated to building a better community through fellowship, goodwill and service; and

WHEREAS, since its inception in 1958, the Scottsboro Community Club has supported the well-being of their citizens through a wide variety of worthy projects, has worked countless hours to make their community a vibrant and compassionate place where every resident can be proud and through their services make their community a better place to live and work; and

WHEREAS, the Scottsboro Community Club began meeting in the basement of Wade Elementary school in 1958, then purchased land and built a one room cinder block building with a dirt floor, and Bar-B-Q pit at one end, and soon after added a full kitchen, and bathrooms; and

WHEREAS, after purchasing two adjoining parcels of land, storage rooms were added on, along with a baseball field, full size picnic shelter, playground, walking track and most recently a full court basketball area with parking; and

WHEREAS, the Scottsboro Community Club meets the second Tuesday of the month to discuss club business and community needs; as well as conducts annual fundraisers such as the Bar-B-Q fundraiser held yearly on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend; and

WHEREAS, the Scottsboro Community Club lets a vast array of area groups and organizations utilize its club building for meetings and events; such as weddings, birthday parties, and the CHS class reunion; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize the Scottsboro Community Club and wish them much continued success in their future endeavors.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the Scottsboro Community Club located in North Nashville.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Mrs. Janie Woodard on behalf of the Scottsboro Community Club.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
