RESOLUTION NO. RS2014-1186

A resolution recognizing Mr. Ken Jakes for his service to our community.

WHEREAS, Mr. Ken Jakes went into a meat business at the Metro Farmers Market in 1981 with his uncle, Mr. Ellis Jakes, a former Metro councilman from 1972-1976, and that business evolved into a full time produce business in 1982; and

WHEREAS, in 1999 Ken Jakes purchased the business that is still known as "Ellis Jakes Produce", when his uncle retired; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Jakes is very generous in his efforts to supply fruit to many community functions, including, The Big Brothers Organization, Kites for Kids, the Last Minute Toy Store", and the Masonic Fruit Basket Program during Christmas. Also, the fruit that is provided at the annual "Metro Retirees Christmas Party" is also donated by Mr. Jakes, and

WHEREAS, his community efforts reaches out as far as the "Layman Lessons Ministries" and the "Second Harvest Food Bank”, where he donates large volumes of produce by tractor trailer load to help feed the homeless throughout middle Tennessee; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Jakes has been and still is very active in the Masonic Lodge, where he was past "Master" of the Centre Star Lodge # 409. He is also very active in the Scottish Rites Masonry and the Al Menah Shrine Temple where he has worked tirelessly for the Shriners Children's Hospital, and

WHEREAS, Mr. Jakes, along with his wife Deena are active volunteers and supporters of "The Special Olympics"; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Jakes, is an extremely generous individual who often reaches out with compassion to people and epitomizes the ideal of the consummate public servant; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Mr. Ken Jakes who has contributed so significantly throughout the community and express our sincere appreciation for his service.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Mr. Ken Jakes for his service to our community.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Mr. Ken Jakes.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
