RESOLUTION NO. RS2014-1139
A resolution supporting the Nashville Convention and Visitors Corporation’s efforts to secure a National Hockey League All-Star game.
WHEREAS, the tourism and hospitality industry is Nashville’s second largest industry, bringing over 10 million visitors to Nashville each year; and
WHEREAS, Nashville’s recent identity as the “It City” is an acknowledgement that Nashville is a great play to visit, live, work, and play; and
WHEREAS, Nashville’s support for professional hockey continues to increase, as demonstrated by the 2012-2013 average Nashville Predators home attendance of 16,600 per game; and
WHEREAS, Convention and Visitors Corp. (CVC) President and CEO Butch Spyridon recently acknowledged that the city has been in discussions with NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman about bringing the NHL All-Star game to Nashville; and
WHEREAS, the CVC has set aside $100,000 in its event marketing fund to help secure the All-Star game, which would bring the league's top players to Nashville; and
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council desires to show its support for bringing the NHL All-Star game to Nashville.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as supporting the Nashville Convention and Visitors Corporation’s efforts to secure a National Hockey League All-Star game.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Resolution to Convention and Visitor’s Corp. President and CEO Butch Spyridon, and to NHL Commission Gary Bettman.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
