RESOLUTION NO. RS2014-1137
A resolution recognizing Samuel Albert Perlen on being named the 90th “Grand Aleph Godol”.
WHEREAS, on Sunday, February 16, 2014, Samuel Albert Perlen was elected the 90th Grand Aleph Godol (or president) of Aleph Zadik Aleph (AZA) International at BBYO’s International Convention in Dallas; and
WHEREAS, just to become one of the five candidates, he had to write a vision statement and compose a set of papers outlining his priorities for the coming year as well as create a video explaining why he wanted the position and was qualified for it and for the convention, he put together a platform statement and gave a six-minute speech before about 700 delegates; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Perlen will serve as Grand Aleph Godol from August 2014 till June 2015 and will be the face of AZA and BBYO on the teen level and over 42,000 Jewish teens worldwide who are a part of the organization; and
WHEREAS, he will postpone for a year his plans to attend college in order to travel throughout North America and the world, promoting BBYO’s goal of engaging more Jewish teenagers and creating meaningful Jewish experiences and to provide support to the local programs and members, meet with adult stakeholders and potential new members, and guide the teens for the year to come; and
WHEREAS, Sam is the first ever elected President from Nashville in the 90 year history of the organization. He is a member of Athens of the South AZA #258 in Nashville and has served in many leadership roles including Chapter Godol (President) and is a part of Cotton States Region #72 and has served as Regional Shaliach (VP of Judaic Programming) and Regional Godol (President); and
WHEREAS, Samuel Albert Perlen is the son of Maxine and Joe Perlen and godson of Sheri Weiner and Sonny Farmer of Nashville, who have supported him on this journey; and
WHEREAS, Sam comes from a family and extended family who have long been involved in leadership roles in BBYO for decades; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Samuel Albert Perlen for the great service he is providing the Jewish community and wish him every continued success in his future endeavors.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Samuel Albert Perlen on being named the 90th “Grand Aleph Godol”.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Samuel Albert Perlen.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
