RESOLUTION NO. RS2014-1125
A resolution recognizing the Americans for the Arts Annual Convention to be held in Nashville on June 13-15, 2014, and proclaiming June 13-15 as Arts Leadership Weekend throughout Nashville.
WHEREAS, nearly 2000 arts and community leaders will gather in Nashville from June 13-15, 2014, for the 2014 Americans for the Arts Annual Convention; and
WHEREAS, Americans for the Arts is the nation’s leading nonprofit organization dedicated to improving and promoting the arts and arts education; and
WHEREAS, this annual convention is the largest national arts meeting of its kind as leaders from all artistic disciplines assemble for peer networking, resource exchange, and professional education focused on advancing the arts and arts education; and
WHEREAS, Nashville is a city built for and by the arts and serves as home to over 41,000 creative industry jobs, 100 arts nonprofits, and 2,600 arts related businesses; and
WHEREAS, Nashville, known internationally for its rich musical heritage and welcoming community, is the ideal backdrop for the Convention’s important discussions on how to strengthen the arts throughout the entire country.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the Americans for the Arts Annual Convention and welcoming all participants and visitors by proclaiming June 13-15, 2014, as Arts Leadership Weekend throughout Nashville.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Resolution to Mr. Robert Lynch, CEO, Americans for the Arts; Ms. Abel Lopez, Chair, Americans for the Arts; and Mrs. Jen Cole, Director of the Metropolitan Arts Commission.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
