RESOLUTION NO. RS2014-1085
A resolution recognizing the 80th anniversary celebration of the Nashville Amateur Radio Club (NARC).
WHEREAS, the Nashville Amateur Radio Club, in March of this year, celebrated the eightieth anniversary of its founding; and
WHEREAS, the club was founded among a group of radio operators in the area for the purpose of promoting fellowship among local amateur radio operators and exchanging technical service and information to the Nashville community; and
WHEREAS, in 1934, the Nashville Amateur Radio Club became affiliated with the, American Radio Relay League, an international organization which promotes goodwill and fellowship with ham radio operators worldwide; and
WHEREAS, a commitment to public service has been a hallmark of the Nashville Radio Amateur Radio Club since its inception; several members of NARC served in the military during World War II and Vietnam, dedicating their expert skills and training radio operators in support of the war effort; and
WHEREAS, eighty years since its founding, the Nashville Amateur Radio Club can point to a long and illustrious history of providing assistance to local public officials and the citizens of Nashville with highly skilled, dedicated radio operators and equipment ready to assist when needed, they provide community organizations with radio communications for their various events and promote the growth of Amateur Radio and the camaraderie of people with the same goals and hobby; and
WHEREAS, members of NARC provide aid for local charities, such as the MS Society and Red Cross while earning the respect and admiration of the entire community for their exemplary radio skills and concerted community support during times of crisis; and therefore
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes the Nashville Amateur Radio Club (NARC) upon their 80th anniversary and commend its members both past and present, for providing public service and emergency communications to the fine citizens of Nashville.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the 80th anniversary celebration of the Nashville Amateur Radio Club (NARC).
Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Mr. Ed Nutter, president of the Nashville Amateur Radio Club on behalf of the entire Nashville Amateur Radio Club.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
