RESOLUTION NO. RS2014-1048

A resolution requesting the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee General Assembly to introduce and support legislation that would allow beer and other alcoholic beverages purchased at the Music City Center, Country Music Hall of Fame, and Omni hotel to be carried throughout the three facilities on a limited basis.

WHEREAS, the tourism and hospitality industry is Nashville’s second largest industry, bringing over 10 million visitors to Nashville each year with a direct economic impact of $3 billion annually; and

WHEREAS, a healthy tourism and hospitality industry is critical to Nashville’s continued economic progress; and

WHEREAS, Nashville’s investment in the Music City Center, the Country Music Hall of Fame, and the Omni convention center hotel have helped ensure our city’s long-term economic viability; and

WHEREAS, state and local laws currently restrict patrons of bars and restaurants from carrying beer or other alcoholic beverages in an open container off the premises of the establishment where the beverage is purchased; and

WHEREAS, in order to accommodate private parties and conventions, the Music City Center, Country Music Hall of Fame, and Omni hotel need the legal ability to sell alcoholic beverages in containers that can be carried throughout the three facilities.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee General Assembly to introduce and support legislation that would allow beer and other alcoholic beverages purchased at the Music City Center, Country Music Hall of Fame, and Omni hotel to be carried throughout the three facilities on a limited basis.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Resolution to each member of the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee General Assembly.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
