RESOLUTION NO. RS2013-928

A resolution recognizing Kathleen Callaghan for her 35 years of outstanding service to the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County.

WHEREAS, Kathleen Callaghan, Artistic Director of the Metro Dance Program, with the Metropolitan Board of Parks and Recreation, is stepping down after getting the Metro Dance Program through one last production of the Nutcracker; and

WHEREAS, Kathleen was named the 2009 Tennessee Association of Dance’s Outstanding Dance Educator, Kathleen Callaghan received her early dance training in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. She majored in ballet at Butler University, where she was a principal dancer with the University Ballet Company as her career as a professional dancer included Pennsylvania Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, Dayton Ballet, and the Oakland Ballet and she also danced the lead role in Giselle with the Tennessee Dance Theatre in 1981; and

WHEREAS, Kathleen is an extremely talented, compassionate and dedicated individual who currently teaches intermediate and advanced ballet with the Dance Division of the Metropolitan Board of Parks and Recreation, and is the artistic director of the Centennial Youth Ballet; and

WHEREAS, a popular master teacher in middle Tennessee, she is a member of the board of the Tennessee Association of Dance and her duties on the board include chairing the scholarship committee; and

WHEREAS, amongst her many accomplishments she has spent four summers studying the Vaganova syllabus with John White (1988-1991), has taken teachers’ courses at Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet (2001, 2002), Canada’s National Ballet School (2003) and Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet (2004) and additionally, she has studied with several renowned artists; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize the service and accomplishments that are evidence of her love of dance and wish her well.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Kathleen Callaghan for her 35 years of outstanding service to the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Kathleen Callaghan.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
