RESOLUTION NO. RS2013-901

A resolution congratulating Nashville Metropolitan Transit Authority Planning Director Jim McAteer and his team for securing the federal TIGER transportation grant.

WHEREAS, on Friday, September 6, 2013, the U.S. Department of Transportation announced a $10 million Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) 2013 grant to fund Nashville’s Transit Signal Priority System upgrade along the Murfreesboro Pike corridor; and

WHEREAS, TIGER grants are awarded on a competitive basis for the purpose of enhancing economic growth through the use of federal capital funds to repair existing roads and bridges; and

WHEREAS, the Nashville TIGER project includes the installation of upgraded traffic signal equipment and safety enhancements that will improve on-time bus service and provide a more comfortable ride for those traveling to Nashville’s Central Business District every day; and

WHEREAS, the Nashville Transit Signal Priority System will upgrade decades-old traffic signals and add signal priority equipment for all of the fixed-route buses serving southeastern Nashville along Murfreesboro Road, which will allow more frequent pick-ups and drop-offs without adding more buses to already busy streets; and

WHEREAS, the TIGER grant will also fund upgraded bus shelters, real-time information signs, and new pedestrian crosswalks and sidewalks; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes MTA Planning Director Jim McAteer and his team for all the work that they are doing for our community.
