RESOLUTION NO. RS2013-898

A resolution recognizing Don Klein, Chief Executive Officer of The Greater Nashville Association of Realtors, on the occasion of his retirement.

WHEREAS, Don Klein is retiring in December 2013, after serving The Greater Nashville Association of Realtors for the past 16 years and during his time there, the association has been recognized for excellence nationally, state-wide and regionally; and

WHEREAS, Don is originally from Muskegon, Michigan, he attended John Brown University, The University of Oklahoma and Tennessee State University and early in his career Don had a measure of success as a trumpet player and as part of a group performed with many pop and country artists, including appearing on “Hee Haw” with Roy Clark; and

WHEREAS, prior to joining GNAR, Don spent 21 years in advertising and public relations. His earlier career involved positions at book publishing and music business firms, as well as in advertising and public relations agencies such as Brumfield-Gallagher and DVL here in Nashville. Clients he served ranged from trade associations to political candidates and from restaurants to healthcare firms; and

WHEREAS, Don is a certified facilitator for the Investment in Excellence Program created by The Pacific Institute; and

WHEREAS, under his leadership The Greater Nashville Association of Realtors has accomplished quite a bit having constructed 14 Habitat Homes, received 2 TAR Realtors of the Year and a host of other things; and

WHEREAS, no stranger to awards and accolades during his extraordinary career, in 2008, Don received both the William C. “Bill” Tune Award for Excellence in Real Estate Education from the Tennessee Real Estate Commission and the President’s Award from GNAR and, in 2007 he received the association’s “President’s Award” for his energetic leadership of the organization amongst some of his achievements; and

WHEREAS, throughout his estimable career, Don Klein, has demonstrated the utmost professionalism, ability, and integrity, winning the unbridled respect and admiration of his colleagues in real estate; and

WHEREAS, with his retirement, Don will now have the time to enjoy hunting, fishing and other outdoor activities without regard to calendars and clocks; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Don Klein for the great service and all the best in his retirement.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Don Klein, Chief Executive Officer of The Greater Nashville Association of Realtors, on the occasion of his retirement.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Mr. Don Klein upon his retirement.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
