RESOLUTION NO. RS2013-882

A resolution approving a grant agreement from the State of Tennessee, Tennessee Commission on Children and Youth, to The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, acting by and through the Mayor’s Office of Children and Youth, for the provision of Title V Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention and appropriating grant funds to Martha O’Bryan Center to implement an afterschool reading and graduation mentor program.

WHEREAS, the Tennessee Commission on Children and Youth has awarded a Title V Delinquency Prevention Grant in an amount not to exceed $17,700.00 with a required in-kind match of $15,092.00 to The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, acting by and through the Mayor’s Office of Children and Youth, for trained volunteer mentors to work with middle school students to improve their reading skills; and,

WHEREAS, the Mayor’s Office of Children and Youth and Martha O’Bryan Center wish to enter into a subgrant agreement for the provision of trained volunteer mentors to work with middle school students to improve their reading skills; and,

Whereas, it is to the benefit of the citizens of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County that this grant award be accepted and the subgrant award be approved.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Title V Delinquency Prevention Grant by and between the Tennessee Commission on Children and Youth in an amount not to exceed $17,700.00 and the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, acting by and through the Mayor’s Office of Children and Youth, for trained volunteer mentors to work with middle school students to improve their reading skills, a copy of which is attached hereto and incorporated herein, is hereby approved, and the Metropolitan Mayor is authorized to execute the same.

Section 2. That the amount of this grant be appropriated to the Mayor’s Office of Children and Youth based on revenues estimated to be received and any match to be applied.

Section 3. That the subgrant agreement by and between the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, acting by and through the Mayor’s Office of Children and Youth, and Martha O’Bryan Center to implement an afterschool reading and graduation mentor program, a copy of which subgrant is attached hereto and incorporated herein, is hereby approved.

Section 4. That this resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
