RESOLUTION NO. RS2013-879

A resolution honoring Ana L. Escobar for her outstanding service as Metropolitan Clerk.

WHEREAS, on November 15, 2013, Ana L. Escobar will end her service as Metropolitan Clerk to become deputy director of the Tennessee Administrative Office of the Courts; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Escobar is a graduate of St. Cecilia Academy and Vanderbilt University in Nashville, as well as a 1995 graduate of the George Washington University Law School; and

WHEREAS, after graduating from law school, Ana Escobar practiced criminal law for over fifteen years in Nashville, serving as a prosecutor in the Office of the District Attorney, an assistant public defender in the Office of the Public Defender, and as a private criminal defense lawyer; and

WHEREAS, on July 5, 2011, the Metropolitan Council approved Mayor Karl Dean’s appointment of Ana Escobar as Metropolitan Clerk, thus becoming the first Hispanic woman to lead a Metropolitan Government department; and

WHEREAS, in her work as Metropolitan Clerk, Ana has been instrumental in the overhaul of the commercial solicitation licensing program and in the development of the “My City Academy” program, which is an initiative of Mayor Karl Dean's New American Advisory Council designed to increase knowledge of Nashville’s immigrant and refugee community regarding the operation of the Metropolitan Government; and

WHEREAS, in addition to her professional accomplishments, Ms. Escobar is dedicated to public service work in Nashville, having served on the Metropolitan Planning Commission, the Davidson County Election Commission, the Tennessee Judicial Nominating Commission, the Nashville Bar Association Board of Directors, and the Board of Directors for Hands On Nashville, among others; and

WHEREAS, while the Council is sad to see Ana Escobar leave the position of Metropolitan Clerk, the Council desires to congratulate her on her service to the Metropolitan Government and wishes her well in her new position.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as honoring Ana L. Escobar for her outstanding service as Metropolitan Clerk.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this resolution to be presented to Ana L. Escobar.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
