RESOLUTION NO. RS2013-839

A resolution recognizing Principal Robbin Wall and staff for the positive transformation of McGavock Comprehensive High School.

WHEREAS, prior to Principal Robbin Wall’s arrival in 2009, McGavock Comprehensive High School, Tennessee’s largest public high school, had experienced years of poor student performance and discipline problems; and

WHEREAS, since 2009, McGavock has met Annual Yearly Progress and has become the only Metropolitan Nashville public school to achieve a score of 5 through the Tennessee Value-Added Assessment System (TVAAS); and

WHEREAS, Principal Robbin Wall is a true instructional leader and his vision for McGavock has completely transformed the learning environment into an innovative, creative, and collaborative place for students and teachers; and

WHEREAS, Principal Wall’s expectations set the tone for achievement at McGavock, and his vision inspires everyone around him to give their best, which has led to: four model academy designations from the National Career Academy Coalition; some of the highest achievement gains in the district and state; award winning student council, arts and sports programs; national awards for McGavock teachers; and three named and branded McGavock business partners; and

WHEREAS, Under Robbin’s leadership, McGavock has emerged as a trend setter in American high schools, and there have been over a thousand guests from Europe, China, and the United States visit McGavock to witness the school’s transformation; and

WHEREAS, this worldwide attention has led to McGavock being one of the two schools to be featured at the 2013 National Career Academy Coalition Conference in Phoenix, Arizona in October; and

WHEREAS, discipline issues have dramatically decreased, attendance has risen from 86% to 92%, and the academies at McGavock are being studied around the world as a model for success; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize and acknowledge the achievements of McGavock Comprehensive High School under the leadership of Principal Robbin Wall.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Principal Robbin Wall and staff for the positive transformation of McGavock Comprehensive High School.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Principal Robbin Wall on behalf of the staff of McGavock Comprehensive High School.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
