RESOLUTION NO. RS2013-784
WHEREAS, after 13 years of service both at Bordeaux Long Term Care and Nashville General Hospital, including her supervisory role as the Team Leader on NGH’s 5th floor, Ms. Margaret Young, RN, is retiring from her position; and,
WHEREAS, during her nursing career, Ms. Young served as a certified nursing technologist at Hubbard Hospital on the Meharry Medical College campus, as well as several area nursing homes; and,
WHEREAS, while working full time as a CNT, Ms. Young put herself through nursing school, first as a Licensed Practical Nurse and later as a Registered Nurse, having matriculated through the programs at Tennessee State University; and,
WHEREAS, throughout her career Ms. Young exemplified outstanding leadership qualities and was often heard to declare that her 5th floor was the best floor in all of Nashville General Hospital, an opinion shared not only by her team nurses, but the physicians who made rounds on the floor and the patients who enjoyed her team’s healing touch; and,
WHEREAS, Ms. Young has touched thousands of patients’ and family members’ lives through her medical ministry, and she always recognized that she was merely creating a space for God to do God’s healing work; and,
WHEREAS, since Nashville General Hospital serves North Nashville which has unique health risk challenges, Ms. Young was in an ideal venue to provide nursing and preventive health care interventions with local residents who were at high risk for developing all manner of illnesses and chronic disease; and,
WHEREAS, Ms. Young had her biggest impact on the Greater Nashville Community with the hundreds of nursing students she trained and mentored from area schools such as Vanderbilt University, David Libscomb University, Belmont University, Tennessee State University, Middle Tennessee University and Trevecca Nazarene College, not to mention scores of out of state nursing programs; and,
WHEREAS, Ms. Young instilled a philosophy of loving kindness in everyone with whom she interacted, recognizing that the tapestry of live and love connects people from all walks of life.
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Ms. Margaret Young for her healing and teaching ministry as a nurse while serving the Metropolitan Government.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Ms. Margaret Young, RN on the occasion of her retirement.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Ms. Margaret Young, RN.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
