RESOLUTION NO. RS2013-765
A resolution recognizing those students who participated in the Youth Entrepreneurship Spring Internship Program (YESIP).
WHEREAS, the Nashville Minority Business Center hosted the Youth Entrepreneurship Internship Program (YESIP) which introduces young people to the principles of Entrepreneurism and teaches them the fundamentals of starting a small business.
WHEREAS, Marilyn Robinson and Lethia Mann, are exceptional motivators and mentors who operate the Nashville Minority Business Center, and the inaugural class of the Youth Entrepreneurship Spring Internship Program (YESIP) was piloted in Nashville, Tennessee January 2013; and
WHEREAS, entrepreneurs embody the promise that lies at the heart of America -- that if you have a good idea and work hard enough, the American dream is within your reach and the Youth Entrepreneurship Spring Internship Program helps students unlock and develop the individual and collective entrepreneurial creativity for pursuit of their dreams and
WHEREAS, the Youth Entrepreneurship Spring Internship Program (YESIP), is sponsored by the State of Tennessee, in cooperation with the Nashville Minority Business Center, Crosslin & Associates, P.C., Nashville Public Library, and Junior Achievement; and
WHEREAS, the following individuals participated in the YESIP program Christopher Michael – Antioch High School, Pherius Malik Wilhoite – Brentwood Academy, Cynica Hockaday and Arnold Knight, Jr., - Cane Ridge High School, Elandra J. Hawkins – East Literature Magnet School, Sydney Alexa Pritchard, Teaira Wilhoite and David Wilson – Hume-Fogg High School, Brandon Jones – Hunters Lane High School, Olivia Charlene Holt- Hall – Maplewood High School, Joshua Steig McDonald – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Magnet High School and Nina Kristen Diggs – Mt. Juliet High School; and
WHEREAS, this program is committed to serving and providing assistance to teenagers (9th – 12th graders) in preparing a personal business and financial plans. As well as use the study and life guide objectives from JA Economics for Success and Ethics which explores personal finance and education, ethics and career options based on skills, interests and values; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes the Youth Entrepreneurship Spring Internship Program (YESIP) for the great service it has provided and continue to provide the youth of the City of Nashville.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing those students who participated in the Youth Entrepreneurship Spring Internship Program (YESIP).
Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Marilyn Robinson and Lethia Mann.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
