RESOLUTION NO. RS2013-764
A resolution proclaiming the corner of McMillin Street and Charlotte Avenue as “Governor’s Corner”.
WHEREAS, the property located at the corner of McMillin Street and Charlotte Avenue is owned by Nashville restaurateur Jack Cawthon, who will soon be opening his third Jack Cawthon’s Bar-B-Que restaurant at 1601 Charlotte Avenue; and
WHEREAS, the corner property was part of the old prison grounds dating back to the early 1800's; and
WHEREAS, the name “Governor's Corner” was chosen in honor of Governor William Carroll who was in office when the prison opened in 1831, and Governor Benton McMillin who closed the prison in 1898; and
WHEREAS, a respected community leader, Mr. Cawthon is Nashville’s very own Bar-B-Que King and is well-known for his award-winning Bar-B-Que sauces, where he has spent the last 37 years perfecting his recipes while building one of the most recognized brands in Nashville; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council proclaims the naming of the corner of McMillin Street and Charlotte Avenue as “Governor’s Corner”.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as proclaiming the corner of McMillin and Charlotte as “Governor’s Corner”.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Mr. Jack Cawthon.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
