RESOLUTION NO. RS2013-694

A resolution appropriating up to $550,000 in Community Development Block Grant funds for Edmondson Park.

WHEREAS, the 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 Annual Action Plans for Housing and Community Development allocated Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds for neighborhood improvement projects in low-income areas; and

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency (MDHA) owns certain real property located at 1642 Charlotte Avenue (Map and Parcel No. 09208016300) and desires to transform this open space into a public park, to be referred to as “Edmondson Park”; and

WHEREAS, MDHA has collaborated with the Metropolitan Arts Commission, the Oasis Center, and other public and civic entities to design a public park that incorporates public art, walking paths, play areas for children, and gathering spaces and pays tribute to the area’s historic and cultural significance; and

WHEREAS, final design is underway and the project will soon be ready to begin expenditure of funds; and

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency is authorized to expend up to $550,000 in Community Development Block Grant funds for construction and related costs for Edmondson Park as follows:

2011-2012: Up to $283,095.00
2012-2013: Up to $266,905.00

Section 2. Plans and specifications for the park will be on file at the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency’s Community Development Office.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its passage, the welfare of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
