RESOLUTION NO. RS2013-617

A resolution endorsing the Diversity Management Plan adopted by the Metropolitan Board of Public Education.

WHEREAS, on February 12, 2013, the Metropolitan Nashville Board of Public Education (“the Board”) approved a Diversity Management Plan for Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools; and

WHEREAS, the Board-approved diversity plan recognizes the benefits of a diverse student body and faculty in educating young people and preparing them to be productive citizens; and

WHEREAS, the diversity plan identifies expectations for racial/ethnic, income, language, and disability diversity for students, school staff, and central office personnel; and

WHEREAS, the diversity plan also includes provisions for continuous monitoring and the annual reporting of data on the student and staff diversity in the schools, the clusters, the central office, and the system as a whole; and

WHEREAS, the Board members should be commended for their efforts to celebrate diversity and ensure that students have the opportunity to thrive in a diverse environment on their journey toward adulthood.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as endorsing the Diversity Management Plan adopted by the Metropolitan Board of Public Education.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Resolution to each member of the Metropolitan Board of Public Education and to Dr. Jesse Register, Director of Schools.

Section 3. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
