RESOLUTION NO. RS2013-611
A resolution recognizing and congratulating Deputy Chief Louise W. Kelton.
WHEREAS, Louise W. Kelton has spent her entire 32 year law enforcement career with the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department in Nashville, Tennessee. She joined the force in 1980, as an officer trainee and worked her way through the ranks from officer to commander of Metro’s North Precinct operations in 2004, prior to her current position as Deputy Chief of the Field Operations Bureau, four years later; and
WHEREAS, Louise W. Kelton received her undergraduate degree from Tennessee State University and earned a Master of Science degree in Public Service Management from Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tennessee; and
WHEREAS, Deputy Chief Louise W. Kelton of the Metropolitan Police Department of Nashville received President Obama’s nomination for the post of Middle District of Tennessee’s U.S. Marshal on Thursday, February 2, 2012, an honor most befitting this outstanding individual; and
WHEREAS, on January 1, 2013, Metro Police Deputy Chief Louise W. Kelton was confirmed by the U.S. Senate to become the U.S. Marshal for Tennessee’s Middle District, as she is the first African-American woman to hold that position in the state; and
WHEREAS, on January 7, 2013, President Barack Obama formally appointed Louise, United States Marshal for the Middle District of Tennessee and was sworn-in by Director Stacia A. Hylton on Wednesday, January 16, 2013; and
WHEREAS, the Middle Tennessee’s U.S. Marshal’s responsibilities will be to lead the district office, determine the district’s program objectives and priorities in support of the Marshals Service’s goals and mission, delegates authority within the district, executes federal court orders and responds to special requirements placed on the district by the courts, Marshals Service Headquarters, and the Attorney General; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes and congratulates Deputy Chief Louise W. Kelton on her new appointment as she has dedicated her life to the service of humanity through law enforcement and we wish her every continued success.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing and congratulating Deputy Chief Louise W. Kelton.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Deputy Chief Louise W. Kelton.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
