RESOLUTION NO. RS2013-551

A resolution recognizing Mrs. Verlon C. Malone on her retirement from the Nashville Public Library.

WHEREAS, Mrs. Verlon C. Malone, MLS, Library Manager III, Bordeaux Area Library, retired on December 20, 2012, after completing forty-four years of outstanding service to the Nashville Public Library; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Malone began her career with the Nashville Public Library as a Library Assistant in 1968 and served at the Hadley Park Branch until she was promoted to Senior Library Assistant in 1976 at the Edgehill Branch; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Malone began attending Vanderbilt University in 1979 and was promoted to Library Assistant II at the Edgehill Library, serving until she graduated with her Master's Degree in Library Science, and was promoted to Librarian I in 1982 at the Looby Branch, and served in increasingly responsible positions as Librarian II from 1983 - 1987, as Librarian III from 1987 - 1988, and as Librarian IV from 1988-1997, and as Library Manager III in 1997; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Malone became the Library Manager III for the Bordeaux Area Libraries, serving the Bordeaux, Hadley Park, Looby, North, Richland Park, and Watkins Park Branches in 2000, where she remained until her retirement in 2012; and

WHEREAS, during her tenure as Library Manager III for the Bordeaux Area Libraries her major accomplishments include initiating and improving many services during her years at Nashville Public Library, mentoring library staff and fostering teamwork, promoting library services, tutoring and developing Nashville's youth through library programming in response to community needs; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Mrs. Verlon C. Malone upon the occasion of her retirement from the Nashville Public Library, and extend our warmest wishes for her enjoyment and continued prosperity in the years ahead.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Mrs. Verlon C. Malone on her retirement from the Nashville Public Library.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Mrs. Verlon C. Malone.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
