RESOLUTION NO. RS2013-550

A resolution recognizing 2012 Nashville Beautiful art contest Co-Grand Prize Winner Marvin Guardado.

WHEREAS, Marvin Guardado, a 3rd grade student in Elizabeth Neese’s classroom at Una Elementary was named the 2012 Co-Grand Prize Winner of this year’s Nashville Beautiful art contest; and

WHEREAS, this talented individual used his creativity and environmental awareness in submitting his rendering of this year’s contest theme of reducing the carbon footprint, under the direction of art teacher Caroline Bartlett; and

WHEREAS, for the past seven years the Nashville Beautiful art contest has been opened to all Metro Nashville Public School third and fourth graders and in its seventh year, 70 entries from 35 elementary schools were submitted with this year’s grand prize artwork producing a first in the contest’s seven–year history a tie for first place; and

WHEREAS, Metro Public Works, Metro Beautification & Environment Commission, Metro Nashville Public Schools, Red River Service Corporation, Nashville Arts Collection and Metropolitan Arts Commission are partners in this ongoing education program; and

WHEREAS, Marvin’s art work was featured in the 60th Annual Nashville Christmas Parade on Friday, December 7, 2012, downtown, followed by a public viewing on Saturday, December 8, 2012, on Titans Way, and will also be displayed on a household waste collection truck during the next six months as part of a citywide campaign to promote this year’s contest theme of reducing your carbon footprint and he also received prize money from Red River Service Corporation for his school’s art department; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes and congratulates Marvin Guardado for his winning entry in the Nashville Beautiful art contest and his contribution to the citywide campaign.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing 2012 Nashville Beautiful art contest Co-Grand Prize Winner Marvin Guardado.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Marvin Guardado.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
