RESOLUTION NO. RS2013-548

A resolution honoring the life of H. Houston Hagar.

WHEREAS, on November 17, 2012, Nashville and Davidson County lost a respected public servant in the passing of H. Houston Hagar a man of great integrity; and

WHEREAS, H. Houston Hagar was born in 1925 and raised in Davidson County, Tennessee; he graduated from the Nashville School of Law in 1950, and is survived by his wife of 25 years Peggy S. Hagar; and

WHEREAS, H. Houston Hagar worked as a claims attorney for 34 years with USF&G and Alexander & Alexander, was a Juvenile and Night court Judge for 12 years with Metro Nashville and retired in 2004, practiced civil law since 1990 and was a member of the Nashville Bar for over 50 years; and

WHEREAS, H. Houston Hagar was a former member of the Nashville Kiwanis Club and Donelson Hermitage Chamber of Commerce, was a Metro Councilman for 10 years from 1979 to 1989, a member and former deacon of New Hope Baptist Church where he taught an adult class for 17 years and was an Army Veteran of WWII; and

WHEREAS, those who knew H. Houston Hagar will long miss his presence and guidance as he will be remembered with great affection and admiration; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council remembers the bountiful life of this exceptional public servant and human being, reflect upon his impeccable character and commitment to Nashville and Davidson County and express our condolences to the family upon the occasion of his untimely passing.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as honoring the life of H. Houston Hagar.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to the family of the late H. Houston Hagar.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
