RESOLUTION NO. RS2012-487

A resolution recognizing Nashville Municipal Auditorium’s 50th Anniversary.

WHEREAS, Nashville’s Municipal Auditorium opened their doors on October 7, 1962, with a Church of Christ revival meeting as its first event and since then the venue has served as a distinctive and vibrant entertainment multi-purpose facility for Nashville and the surrounding area; and

WHEREAS, for the past 50 years, the Nashville Municipal Auditorium has handled a diversity of events as it has hosted everything from concerts to circuses, auto shows to evangelical crusades, and sporting events to trade shows; and

WHEREAS, the Nashville Municipal Auditorium continues to serve as a multi-purpose downtown venue hosting urban, Latin, country and rock music events, as well as the Al Menah Shrine Circus, Nashville Rollergirls, Harlem Globetrotters just to name a few; and

WHEREAS, the rebranding of the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum at Nashville Municipal Auditorium signals a new and exciting chapter in the life of this iconic Nashville institution; and

WHEREAS, the Nashville Municipal Auditorium strives to make continuous improvements to its facility, whether it be repurposing an underutilized area of the building to construction on the exhibition floor, updating the décor to renovating and making repairs to make visiting the auditorium a remarkable experience; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes the 50th Anniversary of the Nashville Municipal Auditorium as it celebrates this important occasion.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Nashville Municipal Auditorium’s 50th Anniversary.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Mr. Bob Skoney, General Manager of the Nashville Municipal Auditorium on behalf of the Metropolitan Auditorium Commission Members and the Metropolitan Auditorium Staff.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
